‘Energize is a brilliant club – there are a lot of games played, like traffic lights and sleeping lions. We have a memory verse from the Bible, and a biscuit and a drink. The leaders are all very kind and helpful, and it is lots of fun. I really miss it when I can’t go.’ 

What? – a fun, church-based, youth club with games, drama, craft, stories and refreshments

When? – Mondays during term time, 6.15 – 7.30

Where? – Chudleigh Youth Club

New term starts 13th September, cost 50p per session.

The Starship Discovery Holiday Club

To all Children of primary school age:

10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1     BLAST OFF !

 

The fun-filled ‘Starship Discovery Holiday Club’ was successfully launched this half-term.

“It was lovely … It was lovely … It was lovely”.

 

Some parents were at a loss for words when they were asked for their views on the Starship Discovery Holiday Club.

            Over 80 children went back to Chudleigh Primary School during February half term for a holiday club run by Christians Together in Chudleigh.

            The school hall was transformed into a spaceship flight deck and each day the children accompanied Lieutenant Docket (Carole Grose) and Cadet Sprocket (Linda Palmer) into Outer Space.  They sang and danced along with “Colin and the Comets” and learned about the life of Jesus’ disciple Peter (a thinly disguised Mark Gale).  Other regular features included the exploits of the Watt Family plus a variety of craft activities on the “space” theme.  Daily visits from Captain Ketchup helped the children catch up on the story so far.

A large team of enthusiastic teenage and adult helpers ensured everything ran smoothly and safely over the three mornings of the club.

           

 

 

 

On Thursday evening parents and families were given a taste of the Starship Discovery adventure at a presentation during which the Vicar paid tribute to the core planning team of Carole, Linda, Ruth and Nick Tuckett and Yasmin Lowrie.  “They have worked tremendously hard for many months to give everyone a memorable experience,” he said.

Teign Valley Youth Project

Teign Valley Youth Project (TVYP) was set up jointly by the benefices of Kingsteignton, Chudleigh, Teign Valley and Hennock to promote Christian youth work across this part of South Devon and began work in May 2006. It is supported and guided by South West Youth Ministries (SWYM), a charitable organisation experienced in placing and training youth workers in the South West

Important news about TVYP

 

From Rev Paul Wimsett, Vicar of Chudleigh, Chudleigh Knighton and Trusham

The Teign Valley Youth Project has been running for the past four years.  During that time Vicki, Louise, Karly, Markus, Jess, Charlotte and Jay have set up and run groups and activities in the Teign Valley, in Chudleigh and in Kingsteignton.  They have worked hard and achieved much, initially with two trainees funded by the participating PCCs and, since 2008 with three, thanks to “Friends” who provided the additional finance required.

Those of you who were present at the Annual Meeting and/or have read Chudleigh News will be aware that that Project has been reviewed recently.  During the review it has become clear that the TVYP as currently set up will no longer be able to continue beyond the end of this academic year: the Parish of St Michael’s Kingsteignton is no longer able to participate and the Teign Valley & Haldon Hill Group of rural village parishes are looking to manage their youth work locally.

TVYP will therefore be wound up with effect from 31 August 2010.  At that stage, any funds left in the TVYP bank account will be ”repatriated” to the contributing parishes on the percentage basis by which each parish has contributed, on the understanding that these repatriated funds will be restricted to youth work in the way each parish chooses

The good news is that we in the parishes of the Chudleigh group with Hennock intend to continue to work with Jess Harrison through SWYM from 1 September.  Chudleigh PCC have given approval in principle to fund Jess’s work at the level currently being given to TVYP.  However, this will not be sufficient on its own, so I hope you will wish to support Christian youth work amongst the young people of our benefice as a ‘Friend of Chudleigh Youthwork’ . We are suggesting the same rate as TVYP Friends previously paid, £10 per month, although feel free to amend the rate up or down in the light of your circumstances.
