Chudleigh Parish Church - 750th ANNIVERSARY

 

  2009 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

On 6 November 1259 the Parish Church was dedicated to St. Martin and St. Mary by Bishop Bronscombe.

During 2009 we celebrate this anniversary with a number of events.

 

Some dates have still to be arranged. Please see Chudleigh News, posters, or this Website nearer the time.

 

JANUARY

A Celebration of Christianity in Chudleigh.

Sunday 11th at 10.30am in the Parish church. A Community Service, including a 750th birthday cake.

 

 

 

BBC “Any Questions”.

Evening of Friday 23 January in the Parish Church.. The BBC will be recording a live radio programme in church.

 

FEBRUARY

The Watoto Choir.  Friday 6th in the Church.

Return visit of this wonderful choir of Ugandan orphans who have found a new home with the Watoto organisation.

 

MARCH

29th at 6.30pm. Deanery Evensong in the Parish Church.

 

APRIL

Special Easter Celebration. Easter Sunday 12th 10.30am.

 

MAY

Ancient & Modern Arts & Crafts Exhibition in Church.  14th, 15th & 16th.

Three days of art & crafts celebrating our anniversary, with refreshments and a cream tea on the Saturday.

 Photo Competition.; - Views of the church. Details in Chudleigh News and on posters nearer the time.

 Community Concert featuring Plymouth Police Choir & Soloists 7.30pm.  

Friday 22nd in the Parish Church.

 

JUNE

Song & Drama - in the Play Park. Friday 5th (evening). The History Group & Chudleigh Repertory & Performing Society celebrate the anniversaries of the Church and the Town Charter

Medieval Fayre, arranged by the History Group. Sat. 6th in the Play Park.

Tours of the Church - throughout the day; explore the personalities who played an important role in Chudleigh Church and the community.

 Visit by the Bishop of Plymouth, who will lead a Civic Service celebrating the 700th anniversary of the Town Charter. Sunday 14th.

 

JULY

Talk on the history of the Church during Carnival Week.

AUGUST

Summer Programme  & Project,- Raising money for charities:

Peter Cowley Africa Trust (PCAT)  JEEL Al-AMAL SCHOOL WORLD IN NEED

September

Music Through The Ages - Concert in the church Saturday 26th at 7:30pm, with a programme including a varied selection of music from Medieval to Modern. Performers will be a wide variety of Chudleigh based groups and individuals.

 

OCTOBER

Flower festival – Hymns Through the Ages. 1st – 4th in the Parish Church. Flower displays based on hymns ancient and modern. With organ and piano music. In aid of community organisations.

Bellringing Festival. Sat 24th all day in the Parish Church. (Postponed until 2010)

 

NOVEMBER

The Bishop of Exeter, Bishop Michael Exon, is visiting our church to celebrate the 750th anniversary of its dedication in 1259 AD. Sunday 1st November at 4pm.

School Tours of the church 2nd - 6th

A School Service will be held on the day of the anniversary;- 6th November

 

DECEMBER

Parish Weekend, At Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth. 4th – 6th. Speaker: John Bryant, Emeritus Professor of Biological Sciences at Exeter University. Click Here
